About the numbers & suggestions
U.S. national SSA data, 1880–2025. Peak rank means the lowest numerical rank; all tied years are shown. Highest birth count is reported separately. Rankings are calculated separately for girls and boys, with equal counts ordered alphabetically, following SSA methodology. Ranks beyond 1,000 are calculated from the downloadable national files.
An absent entry means no published count; it does not establish zero births. SSA suppresses counts below five. Spellings are separate; spaces and hyphens are removed for lookup. Early records, especially before 1937, are incomplete.
Suggestions use starter editorial groups when available, followed by spelling similarity. They are inspiration, not SSA recommendations or evidence of what other parents chose.
